San Bernardino County Department of Public Works – Special Districts (SD) has installed two new Arlo security cameras at the Trona Rest Stop within CSA 82 – Searles Valley, introducing a more efficient and responsive way to monitor site conditions while reducing travel time and operational costs.
Each camera is equipped with a dedicated solar panel attachment and connects to the internet through a cellular SIM card, allowing continuous operation without reliance on traditional power or wired infrastructure. This innovative setup enables SD staff to remotely view the area in real time, helping ensure the rest stop remains clean, safe, and operational for the community and travelers.
Previously, staff were required to drive approximately 2.5 hours each way to visually inspect the site. With the new solar-powered camera system in place, SD can quickly identify maintenance needs, vandalism, or other issues and dispatch contracted services promptly; improving response times and maximizing efficiency.
The installation supports SD’s ongoing efforts to leverage technology-driven solutions that enhance service delivery across remote facilities. By combining renewable energy with wireless connectivity, the Trona Rest Stop monitoring system provides a sustainable and scalable approach for maintaining infrastructure in geographically distant areas.
CSA 82 – Searles Valley was established to support park and roadside facility services for the Trona community, helping maintain vital amenities for local residents and visitors alike.
