Kessler Park is the recreation and athletic flagship of Bloomington Recreation and Park District with heavy use during both daylight and evening hours. Unfortunately, without adequate lighting at night, the park becomes a target for vandalism and graffiti, as well as an added safety concern. Throughout the interior of the park, there were nine security lights that were either damaged or inoperable due to electrical issues. The Park District recently completed a project to upgrade all nine lights with new LED lamps. The lights are set at approximately 20′ in the air making them more difficult to tamper with and also contain impact resistant covers. As part of the project, improvements were also made to the electrical infrastructure to ensure proper amperage is available to operate the security lights into the night. The Park District is excited for this improvement as it enhances patron safety and adds to the usability of the park.
