CSA 70 R-44 Sawpit Canyon in Cedarpines area is 6100 ft of dirt roads maintained by Special Districts staff. Ascension Road, Ascension Court, Alder Glen Road, and the Sawpit Canyon area are within this zone. This is a unique district due to the limited funds and complicated terrain making it one of the more challenging districts in the department’s maintenance portfolio. The utilities are shallow due to many years of grading and limited funds to bring in material. Staff, Brandon Sorby and Andy Duchateau held an informal community meeting to discuss the problem and seek out of the box solutions from many stakeholders. With the use of excess clean material from resident properties, staff were able to raise the road surface, widen in strategic locations and grade to allow better drainage during rain events. Staff received positive feedback and residents were happy to be involved in the ultimate solution.
