On April 26th, 2022 improvements were completed on the pathway from the Zoo parking lot to the front entrance. Earlier this year, County employees from Risk Management and the Big Bear Alpine Zoo identified ways to improve the customer experience and produced a list of suggested improvements. The main path from the parking lot to the Zoo was crushed rock with fencing on one side and was difficult to navigate with young children and strollers. To upgrade the sidewalk and fencing, the Big Bear Recreation and Park District contracted with a fencing company to install a new wooden fence to limit trip and fall issues from the edge of the pathway as well as increase safety. An asphalt contractor laid down a fresh 2-inch layer of asphalt on the pathway, making it easier for all patrons and families with strollers to get from their cars to the ticket window. Lastly, extra measures were added to the path near the disabled patron parking area to increase patron safety.
